Glion Institute of Higher Education: Hospitality Management School

Glion Institute of Higher Education is an international hospitality management university in Switzerland. Opened in the fall of 1962 in the former Bellevue Hotel, Glion Hotel School (as it was then named) was the first private, university-level Swiss hotel management school.
More than a simple hotel school, Glion offers degree programs that combine industry knowledge with managerial skills and personal development. The four degree tracks include:
  • International Hospitality Management Bachelor Degrees
  • Event, Sport and Entertainment Management Bachelor Degrees
  • Post Graduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management
  • MBA in Hospitality, Tourism and Services Industry
Every year, Glion provides post-secondary education for approximately 1,500 students from 90 countries around the world. The success of our graduates can be attributed to Glion’s time-tested merger between university academics with the Swiss hotel school model, close ties with the hospitality industry and an international university environment.  For over 40 years, thousands of graduates have gone through the "Glion Experience" and carried on the famous "Glion Spirit" to represent our institution as leaders in the hospitality industry.

Accreditation and Recognition

Institutional Quality Assurance

New England Association of Schools and Colleges

Glion Institute of Higher Education is accredited at university level by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.

Accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) indicates that Glion meets or exceeds the standards for  institutional quality assurance, which are periodically assessed through a peer review process. An accredited college or university has the necessary resources to achieve its stated purpose through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by NEASC is not partial,  it applies to the institution as a whole. As such, this recognition is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. However, accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of services and opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Life on Glion and Bulle Campuses

The Glion campus: Life on the Swiss Riviera

The Glion campus is the starting point for all undergraduate programs and the place where students learn through hands-on practice. In this hotel-school atmosphere, personal discipline is emphasized to develop professional skills and attitudes.
Glion campus overlooks the magnificent Lake Geneva and faces both the Swiss and French Alps. It offers a unique view of the “Swiss Riviera” which is not easily forgotten. The area has an unusually mild micro-climate which allows palm trees and other exotic flora to grow in the region. Many people consider it to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Glion is situated directly above Montreux, the world-famous resort town. Well known for its jazz and classical music festivals, Montreux is host to an international population and many cultural activities. The area is rich in both summer sports (soccer, tennis, biking, sailing, volleyball) and winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey). As for the evenings, there is a multitude of choices with clubs, bars, restaurants, cinemas, theaters and concerts.
Glion is also just 25 minutes by car or by train from Lausanne, capital of the Canton of Vaud, and only one hour from the international city of Geneva.

The Bulle Campus: Young and Dynamic

Degree students typically move to the Bulle campus in their second or third  year, where they join our graduate  students. Bulle is a modern, academic  campus, specifically designed for higher education. In this university environment, students are responsible for managing their time, organizing their work and developing their analytical and critical thinking through research, group and individual projects.
Bulle is located at the heart of Gruyère, a magnificent region famous for its tourism, cheese and other food specialties. Bulle offers a lively cultural life and entertainment (clubs and bars), along with plenty of sporting activities including cross-country skiing, mountain biking, canyoning, rafting, climbing, paragliding and horseback riding. Bulle campus is just a few minutes walk from the center of this charming town where students will find a wide array of day and night activities, such as restaurants, bars, nightclubs and many shops and boutiques.
The Student Committee organizes events and theme parties on campus and in the nearby club “Globull”, the largest night club in the region offering live music and DJs.
Excursions and outings are organized on a regular basis and include both cultural and sporting activities. Bulle is just a 30 minute drive from Montreux, and a little more than an hour from Geneva. Ski slopes are just on the doorstep of the campus with the Moléson resort and the more prestigious resort of Gstaad less than 45 minutes away.
